Driveways and walks collect water faster than turf. A small cross-slope can send that flow along a foundation or into a side yard with no outlet. We trace the edge of each hard surface, note gates and fence lines, and look for a route that will remain open after snow and ice. A trench drain, channel drain, area drain, shallow swale, or grade adjustment may fit after the route is known.
